====== Muse Bot Quick-Start ====== This guide is for players who want a **Muse AI** to play Nilgiri for them — exploring, hunting, learning skills, mapping, and reporting back — using the open-source [Nilgiri-Muse-Bot](https://github.com/nilgirian/Nilgiri-Muse-Bot) repository. You hand the repository to your Muse (Meta's personal AI assistant). Your Muse logs into Nilgiri as one of your characters and plays it autonomously for a set time: it explores rooms, fights monsters for experience, learns skills from teachers, maps new areas, banks treasure, and answers when spoken to in-game. When the session ends you get an adventure debrief — a first-person tale of what happened, plus experience gained, kills, loot, and how it ended. While the bot plays, you can watch from your own character and give it live orders — it responds within seconds. ==== Getting started ==== Give your Muse the repository. In chat, point it at the GitHub URL: Your Muse will read the playbook and be ready. Your Muse can **create a character for you** — no ready-made character needed: > “Create a new Nilgiri character named ''CharacterName'' for me.” It runs the full creation flow (appearance randomized, temporary password emailed to an address you provide), and that password becomes the character's permanent one. (Character creation is rate-limited — so pick your name carefully.) Already have a character? Just say so: > “Log into Nilgiri as ''CharacterName'' for one hour and go hunting in the Hills and Plains.” Your Muse will ask for the character's password (used once, never stored), run the session, and report back. ==== Typical session examples ==== Here are three common ways to send your character out: **1. Hunting session:** > "Log into Nilgiri as CharacterName for two hours and go hunting. Start with the Hills and Plains circuit." The bot will hunt aggressively, considering each mob before engaging, banking loot as it goes, and retire to the inn when the time is up. **2. Skill training session:** > "Log into Nilgiri as CharacterName for 30 minutes. Walk to Russ' House and wait for me — I'll teach you Catechism." Bring your teacher character to the meeting point. The bot will follow you, request each lesson, learn immediately, and report its progress. Make sure to close the door behind you. **3. Mapping session:** > "Log into Nilgiri as CharacterName for one hour and map the Sleeping Forest. Don't engage anything rated above 'easy'." The bot will explore room by room, recording descriptions and exits, avoiding heavy combat, and update the repository's area maps with an ASCII sketch when it finds new ground. See the [[https://github.com/nilgirian/Nilgiri-Muse-Bot/tree/main/maps|maps directory]] for examples. Good for filling in the unknown. ==== Watching and giving orders ==== Log in with your own character and watch. You can speak to the bot live — its owner's orders override its plans. Other players can talk to it, but it only takes orders from its authorized controllers. The bot opens every session with a greeting gossip and closes with a farewell gossip — you'll always know when it's arrived and when it's leaving. ==== Teaching your bot skills ==== Starting around level 4, your character can teach the bot guild skills directly. Walk the bot to your location, have it ''follow'' you, then ''teach'' it a skill — the bot will ''learn'' immediately and ''practice'' to confirm. Practice points are limited, so plan which skills matter most. Key early skills include Slashes, Catechism, and Cure Light Wounds. The bot knows the teaching protocol: it will request each lesson individually and report its progress. Just bring your teacher character and the bot handles the rest. ==== What a session looks ==== A typical session: the bot greets the game, checks its equipment and supplies, hunts its circuit (city, Hills and Plains, Sleeping Forest, Vineyard), banks loot, and retires to the inn — renting a room, gossiping farewell, and logging out cleanly. The repository ships with detailed area maps so your bot won't get lost — every zone has an ASCII sketch plus a full room list. See the [maps directory](https://github.com/nilgirian/Nilgiri-Muse-Bot/tree/main/maps) in the repository. Long sessions run in roughly two-hour legs (a platform limit on the bot's driver). The character stays in-game between legs; only the driver restarts. If the game world reboots mid-session (it happens), your Muse will detect it and ask you for the character password to relaunch — the faster you respond, the better the chance of recovering the session intact. ==== After the session ==== You'll get a chat summary right away: what happened, XP gained, kills with locations, loot and bank activity, and how it ended. A full adventure tale is also published to the repository's session summaries — first-person, truthful to the logs, with a compact stat block. See real examples: the [SinMuseBot session summaries](https://github.com/nilgirian/Nilgiri-Muse-Bot/tree/main/session_summaries/SinMuseBot) show what these debriefs look like — every hunt, every lesson, every close call.
