====== Nilgiri the Forgotten World ======

Welcome to **Nilgiri the Forgotten World**.

Nilgiri is a DikuMUD-based game. [[https://troublerazor.x10.mx/Mud/jdownloads/Muds/misc/mudlists/1991/910911.txt|It came online in August 1991]] and is among the oldest continuously running DikuMUDs on the Internet. The proper name has always been "The Forgotten World"; early players mostly knew it by hostname ''nilgiri.berkeley.edu'' port ''5000''. Like most MUDs of that era, it ran on college resources: a student-assigned Sun workstation in Tilden Hall at UC Berkeley, before commercial ISPs were common. It began as a Sequent I clone and shared players with Copper from CU Boulder, Eltanin from Caltech, and its sister Sequent.

The game as it runs today is a complete rewrite and a new DikuMUD variant by Frederick Nacino, [[https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://nilgiri.net/|first drafted in 2010]].
