====== Skills Tree ====== This is an in-depth explanation of understanding how skills are developed in the Forgotten World. Please refer to the [[skills|Skills Tree Graph]]. * See also: [[practicing|Practicing]] ===== Understanding the skills tree graph ===== The skill tree maps out the way for people to learn skills and spells. Some skills and spells are dependent on having learned other skills and spells. You can learn certain skills and spells to the extent that your stats allow you to. {{skillstree:skills_tree_tables.png|Skills tree tables}} ==== Stats ==== At the top of the skills tree are the stats where everything begins. Stats determine how well fundamental-stats can be developed. Which in turn determine practical-skills. Stats are determined on character creation. Some can be modified, but the skills tree is determined by your natural stat abilities. Fundamental-stats are so named because they are the basis for the knowledge needed in acquiring practical skill. Some practical skills require the knowledge of other practical skills. Practical-skills are those skills and spells that can be applied and cause direct result to the world of Nilgiri. Utile-skills are just another form of practical skills but are more utilitarian in nature. Typically utile-skills are not dependent on other skills. ==== Fundamental stats ==== {{skillstree:skills_martialism.png|Martialism fundamental}} The fundamental stats are ranged from ''0'' to ''100''. Until you practice a fundamental skill it is ''0''. The maximum a fundamental skill can be practiced to is ''100''. The fundamental maximum is determined by the weighted averages of each connecting stat above it. In the example above we are looking at the ''martialism'' fundamental stat. That has ''strength'', ''dexterity'', and ''constitution'' as its the basis for development capability. Specifically here it is ''50% strength'', ''20% constitution'', and ''30% dexterity''. In order to calculate the maximum take your natural stat and get it's percentage representation by dividing by the maximum possible ( ''27''). Take the percentage representation and multiply that by the weight. Add all weighted values and you will have the maximum value: ==== Primary practical skills ==== {{skillstree:skills_block.png|Block skill}} The fist set of practical skills following the fundamental stats can be practiced from ''0'' to ''100''. Until you practice a practical skill it is ''0''. The maximum practical skill can be practiced to is ''100''. The maximum of first round of practicals is determined by the average number of connecting fundamental skills maximums necessary for that skill. ==== Tertiary practical skills ==== {{skillstree:skills_greater_protection.png|Greater protection}} The following set of practicals skills determine their maximum the same way by calculating the previous connecting practical skills and getting the averages. The ability to learn a tertiary skill is determined by which category of previously connecting practical skills. In the above graph, the spell ''greater protection'' can only be practiced once both ''protection from evil'' and ''protection from good'' have met the minimum value of ''Category III'' which is in the range of ''16-30%''. So at least 16 practice sessions must be accomplished in both spells.
