Communicating
Communicating in Nilgiri is very important in finding out information from other people. It is the way for organizing campaigns and making new friends.
This page covers in-game speech and messaging. For the public corkboard, see Bulletin Board. For staying in touch with allies, see Friends.
Room speech
Talk to everyone in the same room with say, or address one person in the room with sayto. Silent asides use mutter. Close-range privacy uses whisper.
> say Hello, travelers. You say, "Hello, travelers." > sayto silk Ready for the next hunt? You say to Silk, "Ready for the next hunt?" > whisper silk Meet me by the bank. You whisper to Silk, "Meet me by the bank." > mutter hmm You mutter, "hmm" >
Emotes and socials
Describe an action with emote. Many canned socials are available as their own verbs (for example smile, wave) via the social system.
> emote looks around the square carefully. (You) looks around the square carefully. >
Languages
Characters speak a language. Switch with speak <language> to languages your character understands. Listeners who do not know the language may not understand you.
> speak common You are now speaking common. >
Tell, beep, and pray
tell reaches another player who is currently playing (subject to their notell preference). beep pings a playing character. pray can send a message toward immortals or be used at certain special locations.
> tell silk Where are you? You tell Silk, "Where are you?" > beep silk Okay. >
Zone and world channels
yell— loud call heard nearby in the zone (blocked in silence / underwater rooms).shout— carries farther across the zone.gossip— world gossip channel (can be toggled off with environment flags such asnogossip).
> yell Help at the south gate! You yell, "Help at the south gate!" > shout Looking for a group to Midgaard! You shout, "Looking for a group to Midgaard!" > gossip Anyone know a good armorer? You gossip, "Anyone know a good armorer?" >
Party communicate
communicate (often abbreviated) speaks to your current following / follower group rather than the whole room.
> communicate Stick together and search north. Okay. >
