Starting Out with a Muse AI Bot

This guide is for players who want a Muse AI to play Nilgiri for them — exploring, hunting, mapping, and reporting back — using the open-source Nilgiri-Muse-Bot repository.

You hand the repository to your Muse (Meta's personal AI assistant). Your Muse logs into Nilgiri as one of your characters and plays it autonomously for a set time: it explores rooms, fights monsters for experience, maps new areas, banks treasure, and answers when spoken to in-game. When the session ends you get an adventure debrief — what happened, experience gained, kills, loot, and how it ended.

While the bot plays, you can watch from your own character and give it live orders — it responds within seconds.

  • A Muse account (the Muse app or web client).
  • A Nilgiri character (see Connecting to Nilgiri for how to connect and create one). Each character has its own password — you'll provide it at runtime; it is never stored.
  • Nothing installed — your Muse does the setup itself.

Give your Muse the repository. In chat, point it at the GitHub URL:

“Clone https://github.com/nilgirian/Nilgiri-Muse-Bot into your workspace and read it.”

Your Muse will read the playbook and be ready. Then start a session with something like:

“Log into Nilgiri as CharacterName for one hour and go hunting in the Hills and Plains.”

Your Muse will ask for the character's password (used once, never stored), run the session, and report back.

  • “Log in as MyChar for 30 minutes and explore Newtonia.”
  • “Take MyChar hunting — aggressive, consider everything.”
  • “Map the area south of Midgaard and update the repo maps.”

Log in with your own character and watch. You can speak to the bot live — its owner's orders override its plans. Other players can talk to it, but it only takes orders from its authorized controllers.
