Purpose
Nilgiri the Forgotten World exists so people can meet in a shared text world — explore, fight, trade, and keep friends — at a human pace.

Player-facing purpose
From Game Law and the live systems:

* **Discover** — explore zones, search out secrets, share or keep knowledge (Exploring, The World of Nilgiri)
 * **Communicate** — organize with say / tell / boards / friends (Communicating, Bulletin Board, Friends)
 * **Adventure** — combat for experience, gold, and treasure (Combat)
 * **Trade** — a note economy with banks, shops, and mail (Banking Guild, Shopkeepers, Postal Guild)
 * **Grow** — classless skills driven by rolled stats (SkillsTree, Practicing, Races)

Why a MUD
A MUD keeps imagination and social play in the foreground: no graphical arms race, reconnectable characters, and rules you can read. Connect remains simple:

ssh player@nilgiri.net password letmein
